Description
The image featured on the Ultraman Bootleg Tee was photographed by UnDeR20 founder TenGuSan on the street. The children’s amusement ride clearly borrows from Ultraman, yet its distorted proportions, facial features, and body structure give it a crude, absurd appearance shaped by a distinctly vernacular imagination.
Judging from its form, it was likely assembled by combining molds from two unrelated characters. In an attempt to reduce production costs, the manufacturer joined an mismatched head and body, unintentionally creating a new figure somewhere between an imitation, a street sculpture, and a folk monster. Originally little more than an inexpensive amusement ride, its disregard for conventional design standards gives it a strong and highly distinctive visual language.
The photograph was ultimately transformed into a Photo Tee with a deliberately bootleg sensibility. The design preserves the roughness and humor of the original object, turning an accidental counterfeit figure found on the street into an image about imitation, misinterpretation, and vernacular reinvention. A hybrid expression combining UnDeR20 with the Japanese sound effect associated with Ultraman firing his beam appears alongside the image, further reinforcing the piece’s absurd, direct, and street-driven character.

UnDeR20 Story
UnDeR20 was founded on January 23, 2021 by the artist, TenGuSan. Since its establishment, we have been dedicated to the design and release of original toys, which have been widely recognized across Asia, in particular, Japan and China. In 2023, we started our own clothing and accessories lines because we felt that we couldn't find clothes that truly excited us anymore. So we are going to create them ourselves.
From toys to streetwear, just like our name suggests, we have always been "under 20 years old." We uphold our slogan, "Wandering Soul, Untamed Heart." We gather artists from around the world and always stand with the "wildest" young people. A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having, right?
