TenGuSan Wooden Automata Toy

This wooden automata toy was designed by artist Yu Chenrui from the Chengdu-based wooden toy design studio Automata ，featured in the Artist Insider documentary series.

The piece takes inspiration from the signature image of TenGuSan, founder of UnDeR20.Crafted from cherry wood, black walnut, and beech, it preserves the natural grain and mechanical beauty of wood.

By pressing the wooden lever at the front of the base, TenGuSan gently bows forward — a ritual-like motion that feels both humorous and graceful, as if offering a polite “ありがとうございます (Thank you very much)” or a sincere “もうしわけございません (I’m terribly sorry).”
